Anne-Mari Kivimäki & Palomylly

A hypnotic underground trio

Anne-Mari Kivimäki & Palomylly was founded in 2016 when Anne-Mari was asked to perform in Austria. The hypnotic underground trio was well-received. A bit later the band’s great dream came true when they had the opportunity to widely tour the neighbouring Russia. The music of Anne-Mari Kivimäki & Palomylly takes you through a quiet rapture to a smoky rock cave and to the beat of hypnotic rhythm. Like the wind, the group whizzes feeling into archival stories and new compositions: in concerts the accordion sings, the deceased rise and hips sway in the corners of the Kontok village. The star guest Timo Saari completes the band, giving dance a completely new experience as performance art.

Anne-Mari Kivimäki has assembled the musicians of the Palomylly group from Ville Rauhala and Pekko Käppi’s award-winning “Lakkautettu kylä” project, which was acknowledged e.g. with the Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik award in Germany and with an Emma nomination and the Folk Album of the Year award in Finland in 2016. In 2019 Anne-Mari Kivimäki released the album “Hämeen lauluja” with these supertalented musicians, receiving good reviews in the media. The group was selected as the showcase act of the Folk Alliance International New Orleans, USA, in January 2020. The group takes part in making music for the short film series Kalevala X, which will be made in 2021–2026.
